Warning: ON-BEN

You’ll see the following warning message on the ERRORS page in H&R Block's tax software if you lived in Ontario as of December 31st 2022, but you did not complete the Ontario trillium benefit and Ontario senior homeowners’ property tax grant (ON-BEN) form:

You haven’t claimed your rent or property tax for 2018, or applied for any of the credits included in the Ontario trillium benefit. If you want to claim this credit, go back to the CREDITS AND DEDUCTIONS tab, click on the Commonly Claimed icon, check the box for the Ontario trillium benefit and Ontario senior homeowners’ property tax grant (ON-BEN) form (under PROPERTY AND RENT CREDIT), then click Continue. To apply for your credit, make sure you answer the 2 questions on the ON-BEN page and enter your amounts, like your rent or property tax. [warning]

 

How do I fix this?

To clear this warning, add the Ontario trillium benefit and Ontario senior homeowners’ property tax grant (ON-BEN) form to your tax return, and enter the required information.

When can I ignore this warning?

You can ignore this warning if you don't want to claim any Ontario trillium benefit and Ontario senior homeowners’ property tax grant (ON-BEN) tax benefits. To ignore the warning, simply click Ignore on the ERRORS page and continue with your return.
